The Altar of Sacrifice
Right at the entrance of the sanctuary stood an altar where an animal was sacrificed. It pointed forward to Jesus, the one sacrifice that could actually pay for sin. Trusting in what He did for you is the first step of the Christian life, and everything else builds on it.

Why did God ask for animal sacrifices?
Not because He wanted the animals to suffer, but because He wanted the seriousness of sin, and the cost of forgiveness, to be visible and unforgettable, pointing forward to Jesus.
